The 2020 South American Championships originally scheduled from April 2 – 5 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, have been suspended due to the coronavirus.
Add one more competition to the list… The Argentinian government announced today the suspension of four international competitions that were scheduled for the month of March in the country.
“Everything that is international, such as the South American Swimming Championship, the Sword World Cup, the Grand Prix of Athletics and the Boxing Pre-Olympic, are suspended,” explained Daniel Diaz, Undersecretary of Sports of the Nation. All national events are still scheduled as normal.
The South American Championships, which are held every two years, would have started with the swimming races from March 25 to 29, with the artistic swimming events coming towards the end of the competition.
The championship may be rescheduled at a later date.
This is the third major international competition to be cancelled this season for artistic swimming due to the COVID-19, after the two world series events in China and Greece.
