USA Artistic Swimming and Head Coach Tammy McGregor Part Ways

USA Artistic Swimming (USAAS) announced that senior national team head coach Tammy McGregor will step down following a mutual decision reached earlier this week.

The separation, described as amicable, was made with both personal and professional considerations in mind as the organization continues preparing for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

“USAAS leadership and I personally, extend a heartfelt thank you to Tammy for her sacrifice, steadfast support, and countless hours dedicated to the program, the organization and artistic swimming internationally,” USAAS CEO Adam Andrasko said. “Her leadership helped guide the program through a very important post 2024 Olympic Games season. We look forward to continuing to collaborate in the future as we make this great sport better.”

McGregor, appointed in August 2024, guided Team USA through the 2025 Singapore World Championships, where the squad placed fourth in free team, sixth in technical team, ninth in acrobatic team, and 10th in technical duet. Earlier this season, the U.S. also competed in two World Cup legs, winning one gold and three bronze medals in the team events.

A former athlete, McGregor represented the USA at the 1996 and 2000 Olympic Games, winning gold in the team event in the former. Shortly after retiring, she began coaching at the Walnut Creek Aquanuts, and was part of the senior national team coaching staff at the 2005, 2007, and 2015 World Championships and the Pan American Games. Since 2017, she has been a member of the World Aquatics Coaches Commission. Before her appointment with the senior national team, McGregor served as head coach of the U.S. junior national team.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity to once again be the Senior Team Head Coach of the National Team Program,” McGregor said. “For family reasons, I will be stepping back and returning home to Walnut Creek. It has been an absolute honor to support the red, white, and blue, and I’m so excited to see what this incredible team accomplishes next. With a home Olympics on the horizon, I know this group will rise to the occasion. They have the talent, the heart, and the grit to shine on the world stage, and I’ll be cheering this team on every step of the way.”

Andrasko has confirmed that the search for a new head coach will commence immediately.
