Sync Up: April 15, 2021

No Fans Anywhere

  • In case you’ve lived under a rock this last month, the IOC confirmed that no foreign fans would be allowed at the 2020 Olympic Games. Wise decision from the Japanese government, albeit heartbreaking for the athletes’ families.
  • The upcoming European Championships in Budapest will have no fans at all in attendance.

Farewell FINATV

  • This is absolutely not the FINA update we all have been waiting for, but FINATV will no longer be active as of April, 30 2021. In its email to subscribers, the federation added that it “will shortly bring news on how we can continue to watch FINA competitions online – live and on demand.” Good thing our Olympic Qualifier is not going to start on May 1 anymore, or I’d probably have had a heart attack having to rely on a new platform on its first day.

Team Updates

  • Rayna Buckle and Georgia Courage-Gardiner have joined the Australian Olympic Team training squad. Buckle previously represented Singapore internationally.
