Sync Up: November 1, 2024

It’s that time again—retirements, coaching shakeups, and even new Hall of Fame inductees are making headlines. Plus, we’ve got a few more news and the latest calendar update to keep you in the loop.

More (and more) Retirements

  • Two-time Olympians Charlotte and Laura Tremble of France have confirmed their retirements. It wasn’t a secret, and they had already mentioned it to the press during the Paris Games, but both took to their Instagram accounts (Charlotte / Laura) last month to make it officially official. The twins had been on the French senior national team since 2017, and competed in the Tokyo and Paris Games in the duet and team events, respectively. Both also became European Champions in 2023, and have won multiple European medals throughout their careers. The two will now focus on their studies in aeronautical engineering.
  • Teammate Mayssa Guermoud has also left the elite scene for France. The 22-year-old joined the national team in 2020, and went on to compete in two World and European Championships, notably winning gold in acrobatic team at the 2023 European Championships.
  • Alessandra Ho of Australia, a 2020 Olympian in the team event, has retired. Ho had been on the senior squad since 2018, and competed in three World Championships (2019, 2022, 2023) as well.
  • Malak Toson of Egypt is also hanging up her suit. She had been been selected as the traveling reserve for the Paris Olympic Games. The 22-year-old had been competing internationally since 2018, appearing at the World Junior Championships that season before joining the senior squad for the 2019 World Championships. She competed in the following three editions as well (2022, 2023, 2024).
  • In Italy, Carmen Rocchino has retired. She represented the country through the youth, junior and senior age groups since 2015, and most recently won three team medals (1S, 2B) at the European Championships in Belgrade.

Coaching Changes and Openings

  • Anastasia Goutseva has officially returned to Singapore as national artistic swimming performance director.
  • In case you missed it, Meng Chen is the new head coach of the Greek national team.
  • The USA has announced that Marivi Escalona will serve as one of the two senior national team assistant coaches.
  • Korea Swimming Federation is looking for its new artistic swimming national team coach. The job opening is available here; applications close on November 8.

News from the Russian Team

  • Svetlana Kolesnichenko is taking a break — she hadn’t truly taken one since her first competitions in the senior national team in 2011.
  • In turn, Mayya Doroshko is training duet with Tatiana Gayday, who was the reserve last season. They will debut together at the Federation Cup, which will be held in December.

Hall of Famer

  • Virginie Dedieu of France was inducted as Honor Artistic Swimmer in 2024 in the International Swimming Hall of Fame (ISHOF).

Calendar Update

  • Per the Greek Federation, the World Youth Championships will be held in Athens from August 26-30, 2025. The Greek capital will also host the European Junior Championships in June.
