Karine Doré Named Lead Coach of Canada Artistic Swimming

Karine Doré has been appointed new lead coach of Canada’s artistic swimming senior national team, as announced by Canada Artistic Swimming (CAS) on December 19.

Doré boasts over 30 years of experience as an artistic swimming coach, and has notably been at the helm of the Montreal Synchro Club since 2009.

Since 2002, she has taken part in multiple elite international competitions as part of the senior national team coaching staff, including the Olympic Games, World Championships and Pan American Games. She also served as an assistant coach on the senior team during the 2020 Olympic cycle.

Over the last three years, she had been the head coach of the Canadian junior national team. Last summer, she led the team to top eight finishes across the solo, duet and team events at the World Junior Championships in Lima.

“I’m really looking forward to this new challenge in my career,” Doré told CAS. “I’ve always been passionate about what I do, and I hope I can bring this excitement and passion to the team as we start up this new Olympic quad together. We’re lucky to have a strong group of returning athletes from last season as well as a lot of new promising athletes, and we will be working hard to provide them with the stable training environment they deserve. My vision is to work together to continue strengthening our fitness and technical skills as we continue to define the Canadian style of winning featuring a balance of difficulty, creativity and spotless execution on our programs.”

Doré will start her new role in January and will join Next Gen head coach Kasia Kulesza and assistant coach Lyza Yakhno at the National Training Centre in Montréal.

She takes over the position after Anna Voloshyna and CAS parted ways in September. Voloshyna had been in the position for six months, leading the team to a sixth-place finish at the Paris Olympic Games.

Canada Artistic Swimming has been marked by several changes in its coaching leadership over the past decade, with five successive head coaches leading the senior squad as well as a period of transition and interim last season.
