Paris World Series Cancelled

The fourth leg of the 2021 FINA Artistic Swimming World Series circuit, scheduled for April 23-25 in Paris, has been cancelled per FINA’s website.

The French Open is the second World Series leg to be called off this season after the China Open.

On top of the pandemic, the second rescheduling of the Olympic Qualification Tournament for the following weekend (May 1-4) in Japan likely impacted and weighed on the decision to ultimately cancel. Many countries aiming for a spot at the Tokyo Games, including the home team, would have not participated in this leg had it stayed on those dates for logistical reasons.

Hungary and Russia will host the second and third World Series legs on April 9-11 and April 16-18, respectively, as scheduled. The first meet of the World Series was a virtual one organized by the U.S.

Only six competitions remain on the 2021 World Series calendar, including the Super Final in Barcelona. Below is the updated schedule:

  • February 20 – 21: #1 Virtual Event, U.S.A
  • March 11 – 13: #2 China Open in Suzhou, China
  • April 9 – 11: #2 in Budapest, Hungary
  • April 16 – 18: 3 in Kazan, Russia
  • April 23 – 25: #4 French Open in Paris, France
  • May 29 – 31: #4 Virtual Event, Canada
  • June 4 – 6: #5 Hellas Beetles Cup in Alexandroupoli, Greece
  • June 11 – 13:  Super Final in Barcelona, Spain
